The most important thing I’ve learnt from this project is that I need to actually make myself a digital score as soon as I purchase/receive the work to be taught. Then I won’t have to rely on a sighted reader all the time, because once the audio files have been created from the Sibelius file then I can study independently because I can either transfer them as they are on my recorder or I can put them into i-tunes and have a playlist on a CD. These can then be played as often as I need them played to fully concretise the piece.
This was clearly the difference between the two choir sessions.
During the first session even though I was musically prepared I hadn’t made a digital score to rely on. Subsequently the session looked a bit unprofessional.
In the second session however, I had prepared a playlist with all the voice parts, which I had generated in Sibelius. This meant that when I got lost, I had the audio file on my computer to rely on. Therefore the session run smoothly.
In the future if I go down the root of teaching choirs I will be sure to use this technique so that I’m in control throughout the session.
Also, I plan to take on a job as an accompanist with a choir, which isn’t known to me, and I’ll be working alongside their director to gain more knowledge on teaching techniques.
