Today I had my first meeting with Fiona Sharp, Associate Musician with Drake Music Scotland and my mentor. We talked about my past experience. Apart from updating her on the Edinburgh Schools visited and the sessions in Drake MusicSpace so far, I spoke about the Big Inclusion project with the Lanarkshire Schools and Hear My Music as well as the work I had done with various ASN (Additional Support Needs) schools in Fife.
Fiona asked about my own needs so as to be better able to prepare for the upcoming project and what is required of me as a trainee. I told her about my physical needs and agreed that she should inform the participating schools of these. I know that I have to do this log and read about community music. I was not clear on how many days I have to do for placements so we printed off my service agreement and took a look at this. Fiona retained a copy for her reference. There are 14 placement days allocated. In principle we are agreed that the projected project in Angus would be ideal, as it would provide 12 placement days (tbc). There is a possibility of me getting further days with another associate musician in Edinburgh projects.
There may be an opportunity to attend the associate musician practice day in August as well (tbc). Fiona is going to discuss the forward plan with Pete and Emma at Drake before clarifying various points.
Actions:
1. Look again at my required commitment for the position as trainee and try and memorise these.
2. Read and log about chapters from the following books:
a) Community Music, a handbook. Moser P. & McKay G. 2005
b) The Handbook of Music Therapy. Blunt L. & Hoskyns S. 2000
c) Receptive Methods in Music Therapy. Grocke D. & Wigram T. 2007
