Activity this week has mostly been directed at drafting information sheets, consent forms and surveys. Having decided to use the Likert scale for the majority of the questions I constructed these first and then added some yes/no and open questions. The forms are now with my supervisor for review as per the ethics approval requirements.
Having done that another opportunity presented itself: to conduct a survey with a singer in an established university choir that routinely performs madrigals. This would give me a chance to gather a personal view about another individual’s experience of learning and performing madrigals. This would contrast with the singers in my core participant group who do not have a Director on a regular basis and normally practice material from their established repertoire in the sacred genre. However, my methodological research has made me aware that if I choose to gather data from this additional source I need to use it. It would be unethical not to do so. That means I should only be asking questions that relate to the questions I am seeking to answer.
I am painfully aware of my inexperience in research at this point!
